Yesenia Gutierrez, a 22-year-old makeup artist from San Juan Capistrano, California started her career shortly after graduating Dana Hills High School. Gutierrez attended Marinello Schools of Beauty in late 2013 where she pursued a career in cosmetology.
Q. How long have you been in the makeup industry?
A. Interned for one year and officially started my career two years ago.
Q. Are makeup trends constantly changing?
A. The makeup trends are constantly changing but what most young clients want for makeup looks pretty much stays the same, which is usually a Kim K face or Kylie Jenner
Q. What do you think of the Kardashian's makeup trends?
A. I love Kim's makeup trends. Kim was the one who pretty much started the whole contouring trend. Her nude lips and smokey eye is her statement look. Kim's makeup artist Mario likes to focus on healthy looking skin and I think that's what makes her look so youthful and glowy! I also love how Khloe wears a pop of color on the lips and she's not afraid to do that.
Q. How do you think the Kardashian's influenced makeup today?
A. I think the Kardashians completely changed the makeup game for every makeup artist," Gutierrez said. "I don't know how many times I've had clients show me pictures of Kim's makeup requesting it for their bridal look. I feel like they're known for their makeup and they always have the best glam team.
Q. How does makeup influence you?
A. Makeup let's me be creative in my own way. Like an artist. My face is my blank canvas. I like to try different looks and get out of my comfort zone with color that people normally wouldn't do. The fun thing is that you can wash it off and start all over. I also love the reaction I see on people's faces once I finish doing clients makeup because it gives them so much confidence.
